Who runs the courses?
Each course will be run by
Viv Thomas
who will come to the location where the course
is being held. Formation Associates may also be involved in delivering the courses
depending on course size and location.
Where are the courses held?
Our aim is to run courses primarily through churches. This is important because
it means that the courses can benefit the whole church, or parts of the church,
which can help build community in the church. Also, this provides the ideal environment
for being able to process what has been learnt and continually work it out in your
daily life. Running courses through churches means that you can share experiences
and lessons together and continue to support one another in your Christian life.
At other times, courses may be run as part of an organisational initiative where
Christian organisations wish to run Formation courses for the benefit of their staff.
Standalone courses may be also be run where there are enough interested participants
without it being necessary that one particular church commission the course.
What is the timing of the courses?
The timing and delivery of the courses will depend very much on the preference of
the church in which the course will be run. Options include:
- 1 night per week on 8 consecutive weeks
- 1 night per week on 4 consecutive weeks, then 1 weekend
- 1 or 2 weeks on, followed by 1 or 2 weeks off to a total of 8 sessions
- Over 2 Saturdays
- Over an entire weekend (for example, as part of a church weekend away)
What is the format of Formation course sessions?
Formation courses are designed to be as interactive and engaging as possible. A
number of different teaching methods are used including a presentation by Viv involving
the use of video and other visual aids, discussion groups, and personal reflection.
What makes Formation courses unique?
All Formation courses are based on a dynamic understanding of the Trinity, Christian
scripture, contemporary culture, practical theology, imaginative use of media and
discussion.
Formation courses focus on and give full attention to the daily reality of your
life. We fully accept that life is sometimes messy, confusing and just downright
busy and these are the grounds in which we live and want to develop as Christians.
How much do the courses cost?
Courses are charged at £80 based on £10 per person, per session. Some group rates
do apply and rates for church weekends away can be negotiated. To discuss costs,
please contact Formation with your specific thoughts for how you wish to run the
courses and we will be happy to give you a quote.
How can I get involved in a Formation course if one is not
running at my church?
Use the Contact Formation page to let us know you’d like to attend a course. Be
sure to tell us where you live and give us your contact details and we will let
you know when a course is running in your area.
If we receive enough interest from one area, we will endeavour to run the course
in that area as soon as we can, whether that is supported by one particular church
or not.
