Second Choice - Review
This book comes as a breath of fresh air. In it, the reader will find liberation
and freedom from the highly competitive, unforgiving world in which we live where
the only people who seem to matter are those for whom all things work out right
every time and first time around! Viv helps us understand that life does not always
live up to our expectations. While many of us plan a life of success and fulfilment,
we all come up against situations both from within and without that alter the course
of our lives -- in our education, in our careers, in our families. These are not
our preferred first choices but often become our second choices. However, they are
the reality for most of us. This is the real world in which we must carry on. How
do we deal with our second-choice worlds and how do they affect our lives?
Unfortunately most people resign themselves to a life full of regrets - blaming
the fact that they did not get a place into their first choice of university, partner,
or employment. It becomes a life full of blame, regret and remorse. Rather than
becoming disheartened and dis-spirited by failure in our first choices, Viv helps
us to accept and make the most of our second choices. Second choices do not have
to become inferior and less productive for us. These second choices - or second
chances - form part of our everyday reality and the sooner we learn to accept them,
the sooner we can make a fresh start and make the most of our second choices.
Often, we think we are alone in this second choice world. Some of the greatest men
and women have lived and succeeded in these second choice worlds. Moses, Joseph
and other characters all lived in second choice worlds. Viv uses the Biblical character
of Daniel who thrived in his second choice world and turned what could have been
dust into gold. Daniel’s second choice world provided him with new opportunities
to live out his faith. The same is true for us. Viv helps us turn pessimism into
realism and frailty into opportunity. Second Choice gives us a new and insightful
help into turning our second choice worlds into places of real opportunity, vitality
and realism for us all - young and old in every situation of life.
